Join us to hear the Secretary, Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, share his perspective on the dynamics of State and Federal relations particularly transport planning, infrastructure delivery and planning and private finance and privately financed infrastructure and how this might work.

Mike will provide insight on the implications and fall out from East Westlink and the Federal Government’s view and approach on future projects. He will also touch on:

  • Federally funded infrastructure projects in Queensland including Inland Rail;
  • Federal government appetite for passenger transport infrastructure – implications for the Cross river rail project and the Gold Coast Light Rail extension; and
  • Thoughts on Infrastructure Australia, the relationship between Federal Government, State Government and IA.

Meet the breakfast speaker:

Mike Mrdak is Secretary, Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, a position he has held since June 2009. Mike began his Australian Public Service career in 1988 as a Graduate with the then Department of Transport and Communications. Since then he has held a number of senior positions across the portfolio and with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

His role in the infrastructure and transport portfolio includes management of international and domestic aviation policy and regulation, airport sales and regulation, infrastructure and investment, COAG competition policy reform agenda, rail investment and regulatory reform, maritime policy, emissions, and energy and natural resources policy.

In November 2013, Mike received the Federal Government Leader of the Year Award recognising his outstanding leadership and work on major infrastructure projects including the duplication of the Pacific and Hume Highways.
